Temporary Road Closure & New Traffic Patterns on Pike Street, Marietta, OH - What You Need to Know! (2026)

Breaking News: Unexpected winds cause road closures and traffic changes on Pike Street in Marietta, Ohio!

Strong gusts of wind have caused a significant disruption in Marietta, Ohio, knocking down a sign at Lowe's and, unfortunately, impacting the traffic signals on the west side of Pike Street. This has led to a temporary road closure and the implementation of new traffic patterns to ensure everyone's safety while repairs are underway.

The City of Marietta has announced via Facebook that the west-side entrance and exit of Lowe's are currently closed. This means that access to and from Lowe's on that side is unavailable for the time being.

Here's what you need to know about the altered traffic flow:

  • Traffic signals at the Route 7 intersection for both north- and southbound traffic are now operating in flash mode, displaying a blinking yellow light. This means drivers should proceed with caution.
  • The signal at County House Lane is flashing red, requiring drivers to stop before proceeding.
  • Left-hand turns onto Pike Street and County House Lane are strictly prohibited. This is to help maintain traffic flow and prevent accidents while the signals are being repaired.

Steven Wetz, the city's director of public safety and service, has stated that crews are working diligently to restore the intersection to its normal operation, with an estimated completion date of New Year's Eve. He urges drivers to exercise extreme caution when navigating these altered traffic patterns.

"Motorists on State Route 7 should proceed with caution when approaching the intersection, as a yellow flashing light requires you to do so," Wetz advised. "Those turning from County House Lane onto State Route 7 should be vigilant in checking both directions before pulling out."

The city has also mentioned that a temporary signal has been set up to help manage traffic flow while adjustments are made at the intersection. Drivers are kindly requested to be patient during this period.

But here's where it gets controversial... Could the city have been better prepared for potential wind damage? What preventative measures could be implemented to minimize future disruptions?
